Jesse’s Glioblastoma Journey

Local Roots. National Reach.

Cancer Teamwork Response is a Southern California nonprofit with a network that reaches far beyond our local community. Jesse’s story shows what becomes possible when experienced guidance, trusted medical relationships, and donor support come together around one patient.

“CTR worked quickly and helped me make sense of it all when I felt hopeless and confused. They helped connect us with the best care options available and advised me when the hard decisions needed to be made. They were there when I needed them, and I will be forever grateful to Cancer Teamwork Response.”

Jesse was traveling for business in Las Vegas when severe pain sent him to the emergency room. Testing revealed an 8-centimeter brain tumor located within areas responsible for language and movement. The diagnosis was glioblastoma.

Because the surgery required highly specialized expertise, Jesse was transferred to UCLA Health in Southern California. His wife, Rachel, traveled from Utah to join him. Under the care of Dr. Linda Liau and UCLA’s neurosurgical team, the tumor was successfully removed.

Recovery required another month of rehabilitation. Jesse worked to regain his strength, relearn how to walk, and continue speech therapy. As the next phase of treatment approached, his family faced another set of urgent and difficult decisions.

This is where Cancer Teamwork Response stepped in.

CTR helped Jesse and Rachel understand their options, coordinate care, and move quickly into the next phase of treatment. The family remained in Southern California while Jesse completed six weeks of radiation and began chemotherapy at Hoag Hospital. When it was time to return home, CTR helped coordinate the transition to Huntsman Cancer Center in Utah for his ongoing care.

From Las Vegas to UCLA, Hoag, and Huntsman, Jesse’s care crossed multiple hospitals and three states. CTR helped connect the people, facilities, and information his family needed at every step.
